Debra Singh - Profile
I've recently graduated with a degree in painting at Wimbledon College of Art.
My work centres around contemporary relationships and the impact of communication technology on how we socialize today. Earlier work was realised through photos taken using a mobile phone with my current work created through drawing as a starting point. These drawings range from live portraiture, life drawing, drawings from moving image, Facebook profile pictures, court room sketching and, webcam sketching through Skype, FaceTime and Chat-rooms. These works range through from painting and drawing to, my more recent medium, of digital painting on iPad.
Working from drawing enables me to feel more in touch with my subject matter. I believe the time taken when creating a drawing or painting promotes intense study and absorption of detail and information.
