Alan Knight - Profile
Alan has a great love of nature, the countryside and the coast. He loves the way that light affects the same view in endless different ways and many of his paintings are of water especially the sea and the local River Thames. He also has a great affinity to Cornwall, where there are family connections, and he spends a great deal of his leisure time there, sketching and walking the coastal path.
Alan works mainly at home in the studio, although the start of his paintings take root from his observations outdoors, whether it be from a sketch, photograph, or just a feeling of being there. The painting then becomes a living body in its own right and is a response to the painter’s feelings and emotions of that time.
His work embraces a range of materials and techniques including mixed media, watercolour, acrylics and oils. He paints in a way in which subject, design and texture are combined to result in a painting that is both stimulating and evocative.
